liquid lickety-split.
mouth would throw
punch down u-bends,
words down pharynx
cant help but spit.

Yes completely, i was definitely thinking about both aspects. Something more basic and literal was actually the inspiration though; alcoholic punch at a party and the consequences of having too much!
